If you have had children, or perhaps simply fluctuated in weight over the years, you may have a loose portion of skin and some excess fat in your abdominal region. If this area of your body has proven resistant to dieting and exercise you may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty, better known as the "tummy tuck."

During the procedure, the musculature of your mid region will be tightened to form a slimmer waistline and a stronger abdominal wall. Excess fat is then removed from your lower and middle abdomen before pulling your skin tight to form a smooth, taut contour.

As with any major surgery, your recovery process is shorter if you are healthy and otherwise fit before the procedure. Most patients will be able to go home within hours of the operation, while some will require a longer, supervised recuperation. The two - to three-hour surgery produces a scar, across the lower abdomen under the bikini line, which will flatten and lighten in about six months. Light exercise will speed the healing process, though it may take two weeks or more before you are able to return to work.

If you're considering abdominoplasty, we invite you to come in for a consultation to discuss the benefits of this procedure and get answers to any questions you may have.
