The appearance of wrinkles and abnormal skin pigmentation can be reduced using state-of-the-art laser skin resurfacing. With this technology, we can offer a gentle, effective alternative to cosmetic surgery that will dramatically improve surface imperfections.

Lighten Pigmentation
If you're bothered by the appearance of age spots, freckles, acne scars, liver spots or birthmarks, laser skin resurfacing may help. Pigmentation, such as the types mentioned above, is often caused by a high concentration of melanin in a specific area. Some of us are born with "brown spots," but for many the abnormal pigmentation is caused by years of sun or other skin damage. Using the precision of the laser, we can target specific areas of the skin to absorb the melanin, resulting in lightening the pigmentation or removing it altogether. The end result is that your skin will have a more uniform color and texture.

Smooth Wrinkles
Laser Skin Resurfacing is also an effective way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, without the risk of surgery. If you're looking to refresh the look of your skin, this procedure can help. The precision of the laser allows us to control the depth of treatment, targeting only specific areas, revealing new layers of skin. As part of the healing process, new collagen is produced resulting in tighter, smoother, younger-looking skin.

The Procedure
The laser emits a sterile beam of light gently removing the top layers of the skin. You may elect to have resurfacing done to your entire face or just partial areas such as around the mouth or eyes. Depending on the extent of resurfacing desired, we may use local or general anesthesia. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes one-half to two hours. As with any medical procedure, there are some risks involved. Be certain to thoroughly discuss your expectations and possible complications with Dr. Kemsley.

Recovery
After the procedure your skin will be red or pink, comparable to a bad sunburn, with mild to moderate discomfort for several days. Your skin will usually heal over in one week and will stay pink for some time after that.

If you're looking to improve the look and texture of your skin, contact Dr. Kemsley for a consultation regarding the laser skin resurfacing procedure.
