| I've
determined from research that breast augmentation with an incision
through the armpit does not compromise tissue and also has the best
results if placed under the muscle. What is your opinion? Also,
do you find that the majority of your patients are happy that they
chose breast augmentation for the sake of looking better? One more
thing, my age is 46; am I too old for breast augmentation?
Most
of the patients that have breast augmentation are happy with the
results and the decision to have the procedure. Your age is fine.
The underarm incision is one of three excellent incision techniques
that we use.

The
doctor that I went to said that I can get silicone implants if I
get a slight breast lift. Are the silicone implants safe enough
to be used? I know that they are more natural, but I don't want
to get cancer from them.
I
consider silicone implants to be very safe and they have no effect
on the chance of cancer.

I'm
31 years old, fairly small frame, not quite 5'4, and about 118 lbs.
I had saline implants placed in Nov. 93. I had one child prior to
having the surgery. I went from borderline A/B to a D cup. As soon
as they settled I noticed unattractive rippling. Since then I had
another child March 99. Now the rippling is much more noticable.
I'm considering another surgery. Now that I've had implants, what
are the chances to get better results? I read as well as heard the
results are better with a 10% overfill. Mine were not overfilled
at all. Please let me know your opinion on this matter.
If
you have significant rippling a 10% overfill will not help that
much. You can see improvement by placing the implants under the
pectoral muscle or by switching to silicone implants.

I
have had a breast augmentation when I was 18 and a year-and-a-half
ago (6 months post-op), my natural breast tissue began sagging
off the edge of the implant. I visited my plastic surgeon and
he was very hesitant about doing a breast lift. I do not understand
why, except the possible scarring. I need a second opinion about
the matter and hopefully a solution.
You
may benefit from a breast lift or the implants need to be repositioned.
You would need to be examined to determine what procedure would
be best for your situation.

| How
safe are collagen implants? I have never had anything like this done
and I am a little nervous.
Collagen injections are generally
safe. There is a 1% chance of sensitivity and we do a skin test
on everyone before using it. Although safe, collagen unfortunately
needs to be repeated on a regular basis

| Facelift |

Last
year I lost 40lbs. I am now 58 and reflect normal signs of aging
plus my face, lower eye skin and neck took a severe drop after I
lost the weight. I want a facelift to improve my appearance. I am
also probably going to need skin resurfacing and collagen treatments.
Can they be done simultaneously?
Occasionally,
we will do a conservative facelift and laser resurfacing at the
same time. For safety reasons it is more common to do them separately.
Cost can be effected by additional procedures such as eyelids, forehead
lifts, etc.

| What
can I do to make my lips appear fuller?
Collagen, fat, silicone
or newer substances such as Radiance and Restylane could be injected into the
lips or other areas that need filling. Radiance can last for several
years, with fat grafting part of it will stay permanently. Radiance lasts approximately two times longer than collagen.

| Liposuction

I am interested in getting lipo on my thighs.
I had it done in 1992. My thigh skin is looser and my cellulite
on my thighs got even worse. I don't know if that had anything
to do with it. Is it major surgery to tighten the skin on my thighs?
I really dislike my legs.
We
appreciate your question and interest in liposuction, although the
only good operation to tighten the skin on your thighs is a thigh
lift which is a major procedure with significant scars. Smaller
canulas can smooth out uneven areas. Hollow areas can be filled
in with fat grafting.

I am 21 yrs old, 130 lbs. I would
like to have liposuction on my outer and inner thighs, as well as
my buttocks. I am not over weight, just oddly porportioned. How
much should I expect a procedure like this to cost and are there
payment plans available?
The
cost of liposuction will vary from patient to patient depending
on how easy or complicated the procedure is. This would be determined
at the time of consultation. Liposuction usually starts around $3500.

It
is possible. You'll need the gynecologist and plastic surgeon to
agree on the operation.

I am 14 years old and I have a huge nose. I really
want to get a nose job, but my Mom is totally against it. How
old do I have to be to get it without parental permission?
We
do girls noses as young as 14 and boys at 17. Usually the nose has
stopped growing at that age. You would need parental consent until
you are 18.

Hello! I am a professional singer
and I am considering Rhinoplasty. I have a little bump I want shaved
down. Will this affect my voice and change it?
Changing
the external shape of the nose should not affect your voice. Alteration
of the internal airway will. That would not be necessary unless
you have problems breathing through your nose. If that problem was
present, the correction may improve your voice.

I have wrinkles around the mouth area due to smoking.
What is the best way to rid these?
You
would need some type of a skin peel. There are three types - a chemical
peel, a laser peel and a dermabrasion peel. If you are just doing
the area around the mouth,I would usually recommend the dermabrasion
peel. If you are doing the whole face, I would probably do a laser
peel.
