How It Works
BOTOX Cosmetic does not fill in facial wrinkles. Instead, it relaxes the targeted facial muscles, gradually allowing the skin to smooth out. Made from a purified form of the Clostridium botulinum protein, it is designed specifically for use on wrinkles caused by muscle movement, called dynamic wrinkles. You still will be able to frown, laugh, and make other natural expressions after your BOTOX treatment at our Orange County practice.
The Treatment
Dr. Kemsley injects BOTOX Cosmetic with a very fine needle into the targeted facial muscles that cause the unwanted lines and wrinkles. This non-surgical treatment is safe and effective, and takes only about 10 minutes. Most patients experience a pin-prick sensation as the injections take place, so an anesthetic is not required. You may resume your regular activities immediately after treatment.
Improvements in skin tone and texture will begin to appear within the first few days as muscle movement subsides and the skin begins to smooth out. Treated wrinkles will continue to fade for about the first 2 weeks and your smoother skin appearance usually will last about 3 to 6 months. Most patients successfully retain their refreshed look with periodic touch up visits to Dr. Kemsley's Irvine cosmetic surgery office.
